How WhatsApp pricing works

Four message categories. Clear rules.

Meta prices WhatsApp by message category and recipient country. CommLeap shows each template's current category before you send, and our team can help forecast cost per campaign; Meta bills these charges to your WhatsApp Business Account directly.

CategoryTypical useHow Meta charges
MarketingOffers, launches, re-engagement, abandoned cartsPer delivered template message
UtilityOrder updates, bookings, account and billing alertsPer delivered template; free inside an open service window
AuthenticationOne-time passwords and login codesPer delivered template message; some countries have an authentication-international rate
ServiceReplies to customer-initiated conversationsFree within the 24-hour window

Rates are set by Meta, vary by country and can change. Meta validates each template's category and may update it. Always check Meta's current WhatsApp Business Platform pricing.

FAQ

WhatsApp Business API questions, answered

What is the WhatsApp Business API?

The WhatsApp Business API is the programmatic part of Meta's WhatsApp Business Platform. It lets businesses send and receive WhatsApp messages at scale from their own systems, with multiple agents, automation, approved message templates and integrations — capabilities that go well beyond what the WhatsApp Business mobile app offers.

Do we need to be verified by Meta to use it?

You can start with limited messaging after connecting a number. Completing Meta business verification is one way to raise your messaging limits, and it is required before you can request an Official Business Account (verified badge), which Meta grants at its discretion. CommLeap's onboarding team guides you through the documents and steps.

How does WhatsApp Business API pricing work?

Meta charges per delivered template message, with rates set by message category (marketing, utility or authentication) and the recipient's country. Replies to customers within the 24-hour customer service window are free, and utility templates sent inside an open service window are also free. Meta sets and can change these rates and rules. As a Meta Tech Provider, CommLeap onboards you to your own WhatsApp Business Account: Meta bills these charges to you directly, and CommLeap invoices only its own fees. Contact us for pricing.

Can we keep our existing phone number?

Yes. You can register a new number, bring a number currently used on the WhatsApp Business app (after it is moved to the API), or migrate a number that is already on the API with another provider. When a number already on the API moves between providers, Meta's process is designed to retain its display name, quality rating, messaging limit and Official Business Account status, and to copy eligible approved templates (template quality ratings restart).

What is the 24-hour customer service window?

When a customer messages you, a 24-hour window opens in which you can reply with free-form messages. Outside that window, you must use a pre-approved message template to start or restart the conversation. CommLeap's inbox shows window status for every conversation, so agents can see what they are able to send.

Can we use chatbots and AI on WhatsApp?

Yes. You can automate conversations today with CommLeap's no-code flow builder and hand conversations over to human agents with full context. AI agents grounded in your approved content are coming soon, designed for business-specific customer service in line with Meta's WhatsApp Business Solution Terms. Explore Conversational AI.

How quickly can we go live?

Once Meta business verification is complete and your first templates are approved, you can begin sending; timing depends on Meta's reviews and your integration work. Larger rollouts with several brands, regions or system integrations follow a phased plan agreed with your CommLeap solutions team.

Does CommLeap support multiple brands and numbers?

Yes. Enterprises can manage multiple WhatsApp Business Accounts, numbers and brands from one CommLeap organization, with separate permissions, templates, inboxes and reporting for each.
